🏆 9U Coach of the Year – Jordan Pederson 🏆
Team:
Bobcat
Years of Experience Coaching Baseball:
2 Years
About Coach Pederson:
Jordan Pederson grew up in a small farming community near Graceville, MN, where some of his fondest memories were made playing backyard baseball with family or at the church playground with friends. His love for the game was ignited early on, whether it was staying up late to watch the Twins win the World Series, playing high school and Legion baseball, or participating in softball leagues after college. Now, as a parent, his goal is to create those same fun memories with his kids, playing baseball with both family and friends.
Balancing Winning and Player Development:
As the kids get older, they become more aware of the excitement of winning games. However, regardless of the outcome, Coach Pederson always takes time after each game to reflect on the team's individual goals and the progress made toward them. This focus on growth and improvement leads to long-term success, both on and off the field.
Coaching Players with Different Skill Levels and Personalities:
Coach Pederson's main goal is to see the kids trying their best, challenging themselves in practice, staying positive, encouraging their teammates, and most importantly, having fun. He wants them to create experiences they’ll always remember.
Biggest Coaching Influences and Lessons Learned:
Coach Pederson has been influenced by a variety of people, from his own parents and the great coaches he had in school, to helpful coaching tips found online, and observing the excellent coaches his kids have had in other sports. One key lesson he has learned is the importance of building individual relationships with each player, making them feel valued and supported.
Most Memorable Coaching Moment:
One of the most memorable moments of Coach Pederson’s career was seeing a player who had struggled throughout the season get another chance in the last game and ultimately succeed. The joy on the player's face and the excitement from his teammates was priceless—every 9-year-old should get to experience that feeling in baseball.
Additional Thoughts:
Coach Pederson is incredibly appreciative of the players he had the privilege to coach this year, as well as the other dedicated co-coaches and parents who made up the team. They put in just as much work with the kids and deserve this award just as much.
