Boden Meier Benefit Hitting Camp

On May 10, Boden was involved in a golf cart accident. The next morning, he was found unresponsive but breathing and was rushed to a hospital in Omaha. Doctors discovered bleeding in two areas of his brain and performed emergency surgery to stop it. They also found a skull fracture, a broken nose, bruising of the frontal lobe, a midline shift of the brain, and areas of tissue death caused by the pressure that had built up in his brain. An MRI on May 16 showed evolving brain damage, but two major areas remain intact - his brainstem and left hemisphere, which control vital functions, speech, language, and memory. The things that make Bo, Bo.

Boden is expected to be discharged from Craig Hospital on November 12. He continues to make daily progress, though at a slow pace. Once he is able, he will return to Craig to fully participate in their exceptional rehabilitation therapies. In the meantime, his family has been advised that home is an important part of his healing, so they will be returning to Fargo .

Under the guidance of their friends in Fargo, the Meier home is being modified to accommodate Bo’s needs. The master bathroom has been completely remodeled to be handicap-accessible, including a large roll-in shower. The formal dining room will now serve as a physical therapy area, with a large stretching table to address the muscle spasticity that often accompanies these injuries. A wheelchair lift will be installed in the garage, and Chris and Karin have purchased a large Ram van with a wheelchair lift to transport Bo—because, of course, he doesn’t fit in a standard adaptive minivan. Bo will continue physical, occupational, and speech therapies at Sanford and will require in-home support, as he remains dependent on assistance for all his daily care.

Bo’s family is incredibly grateful for the outpouring of emotional and financial support they have received over the past six months. They are thrilled to be coming home and know that, in this next stage of his rehabilitation, Bo will need his fans more than ever.

Special thanks to our incredible volunteers and to Legacy Plumbing for generously matching donations up to $8,000!
