Program Coaching Staff of the Year - Kenny & Melissa Wold

Team: 8U Lillestol Research & 11U Zach Construction

Years of Experience Coaching Baseball: Kenny (6 years), Melissa (4 years)

Kenny and Melissa Wold have transformed their shared passion for sports into a mission to inspire young athletes. As proud parents of four multisport players—three sons and a daughter—they’ve dedicated their time and energy to coaching, making a lasting impact on the 8U and 11U age groups.

Kenny’s love for baseball began when he was just five years old. His enthusiasm and deep understanding of the game help young players recognize the importance of mastering the fundamentals. For him, it’s not just about how far you can hit the ball or how fast you can throw—it’s about accuracy, consistency, and the small details that lead to long-term growth.

Melissa brings her own strong background to the dugout, with seven years of fastpitch experience, including two seasons at a Division III community college, where she played both second base and center field. Her defensive mindset instills discipline and focus, giving players the tools they need to succeed in the field.

Together, Kenny and Melissa center their coaching philosophy on instilling confidence, focusing on fundamentals, and keeping the game fun. They strive to help players build skills and friendships while creating a positive experience that fosters a lifelong love for baseball.

For the Wolds, the emphasis isn’t on wins and losses—it’s on player development, sportsmanship, and maintaining a positive attitude. They believe that focusing on these values naturally transforms teams into competitive groups, without sacrificing growth or enjoyment.

To keep players motivated, Kenny and Melissa remind their teams that baseball is, at its core, a game meant to be fun. They even create an epic music playlist to play between innings and during warmups to keep the energy high, and they cap off each season with a spirited parent vs. kids game—celebrating both the athletes and the parents for their hard work and commitment.

As coaches, they know the role requires patience and adaptability. They make a point to stay current with the latest trends and techniques through apps, online resources, and collaboration with other local coaches. Most importantly, they aim to build a team culture where players aren’t afraid to make mistakes.

“Baseball is a game of failure,” Kenny and Melissa explain, “and how a coach teaches players to respond to adversity on the field can shape how they handle it in life.”

For the Wolds, that is the true legacy they hope to leave—a culture where players gain the confidence, resilience, and joy to carry with them long after the final inning.

We sincerely thank Melissa and Kenny for their unwavering dedication and commitment to our athletes.
