13U Coach of the Year - Terry Bartsh

Team: 13U Century Builders

Years of Experience Coaching Baseball: 8 years

For the past 16 years, Terry Bartsh has called the Fargo-Moorhead area home. Growing up, he enjoyed baseball as a kid, though he didn’t pursue it in high school. His true coaching journey began when his own children picked up the sport. What started as a way to stay involved quickly grew into a passion. After learning the ropes from other coaches during his first season, Terry went on to coach the Century Builders team for many years. Looking back, he describes the experience as a fun ride—full of ups and downs, but always rewarding. What has impressed him most is watching kids grow and develop each year, not only as players but as individuals.

When it comes to balancing competition and development, Terry emphasizes life lessons over wins. His motto this past season was “ACC: Attitude, Confidence, and Composure.” He believes mastering these traits on the field will carry players much further in life than a scoreboard ever could. By focusing on ACC, his players learned to bounce back from mistakes, keep their heads up, and truly enjoy the game. Winning may be fun, but for Terry, building confidence and character always comes first—and often, the results on the field follow naturally.

Coaching players with different skill levels and personalities is another area where Terry thrives. He approaches every player with the same fundamental lessons, tailoring extra time and demonstrations when needed. Repetition, patience, and attention to detail are key. With a keen eye for strengths and weaknesses, he invests extra time into helping players improve in their weaker areas so they can build confidence and focus on success. He constantly reminds his team: “Baseball is a game of failure—even the pros fail from time to time.” That perspective helps his players handle challenges with resilience.

Terry also makes a point to stay current with the game. YouTube has been a valuable resource throughout his coaching career, offering up-to-date techniques and drills for batting, fielding, and everything in between. Whenever he noticed something in a player’s mechanics that didn’t look right, he researched the best ways to correct it—preventing bad habits before they could take root.

Looking to the future, Terry hopes his legacy will be measured not by wins and losses, but by the lessons his players carry with them long after baseball. Discipline, determination, teamwork, and a never-quit attitude are the traits he hopes to instill. He wants the friendships and memories built on the diamond to last a lifetime, even if the players never pick up a glove again.

Above all, Terry is grateful to his wife, Angela, who encouraged him to take on coaching in the first place. Her support, patience, and understanding have made it possible for him to spend countless hours at the field. “From the bottom of my heart—thank you,” Terry says, crediting her as the true MVP behind his coaching journey.

Thank you, Terry, for your dedication and the lasting impact you’ve made on so many players!
